Better Research Integration for Democratising Journalism on Energy
Systematic collaboration that transforms isolated research findings into compelling, problem-based narratives that serve the public interest.
The Program
The climate crisis demands urgent transformation in how we communicate energy research to the public, particularly in contexts where global research must connect meaningfully with local energy needs and challenges. The Better Research Integration for Democratising Journalism on Energy (BRIDJE) project addresses a critical communication gap that undermines public understanding of energy solutions, especially in developing countries where the disconnect between international research and local application is most pronounced.
BRIDJE emerges from the recognition that communicating cutting-edge research in a form that resonates with local needs is crucial but challenging in countries like Nigeria, where available information that connects global energy issues with local needs is limited. This challenge also represents the project's greatest opportunity, as bridging this gap through systematic researcher-journalist collaboration can demonstrate transformative potential for energy communication in contexts where it is most needed.
BRIDJE proposes to transform this relationship through systematic collaboration that transforms isolated research findings into compelling, problem-based narratives that serve the public interest. By creating structured partnerships between researchers and journalists, the project moves beyond innovation-focused coverage toward problem-based reporting that empowers citizen engagement with energy choices.
